Here is some information about how to download betting apps, how they work and the option of using your browser on your smartphone.

First of all, let’s talk about what apps are available in Indiana right now. They are:

  • DraftKings Sportsbook
  • FanDuel Sportsbook
  • BetMGM
  • BetRivers
  • BetAmerica/TwinSpires
  • PointsBet
  • Caesars Sportsbook
  • Unibet
  • theScore Bet
  • William Hill

DraftKings Sportsbook

DraftKings is best known as one of the top providers for daily fantasy sports in the world. However, the company in black and green has quickly evolved into a true powerhouse in sports betting in the last few years.

The DraftKings app introduced or popularized numerous innovations to the US sports betting crowd. Hoosiers can now use both the betting carousel, which customizes the customer experience, and the live ticket system, which can allow bettors to guard against late meltdowns.

FanDuel Sportsbook

FanDuel Sportsbook is the sports betting arm of the company of the same name. Though FanDuel often moves in tandem with archrival DraftKings, the operator is a formidable sports betting facilitator in its own right.

The company distinguishes itself with a consistent and generous bonus system for its players. Few Indiana sportsbooks will hand out more goodies or have more betting options than FanDuel.

BetMGM

Despite being a newcomer to Indiana, BetMGM is not an unknown quantity by any stretch. BetMGM is the online sports betting arm of MGM Resorts, one of the largest casino operators in the world.

BetMGM, which began life as PlayMGM, has the smoothness and fluidity of a site that has been overhauled and refined. Players there will find a clean and easy-to-navigate site indicative of the operator’s world-class pedigree.

BetRivers

BetRivers is the online sportsbook for Rush Street Interactive. The operator, which primarily does business in Pennsylvania, has quickly shown itself to be a force in the sports betting world.

BetRivers offers one of the most in-depth rewards systems for sports bettors. Players who play on BetRivers receive points for the site’s bonus store. They will find perks and benefits there that make playing on BetRivers all the sweeter.

Unibet

Unibet may be one of the new kids on the block in Indiana, but it brings along plenty of sports betting experience.

The sportsbook previously cut its teeth in New Jersey and Pennsylvania before entering Indiana’s market. The company is based in Europe, and right now, it only has an Android app available for mobile devices.

PointsBet

PointsBet is the sixth online sportsbook to launch in Indiana. PointsBet is an Australian sports betting operator that has made a name for itself with a unique signature product.

That product is the Points Betting, which is a variant on the traditional spread bet. Unlike the typical point spread wager, players are rewarded or penalized based upon how far the actual margin of victory ended from the spread. Players have the potential to win (or lose) scads of money through this simple tweak on a classic bet.

BetAmerica/TwinSpires

BetAmerica is the online sportsbook from Churchill Downs. The operator joined Indiana’s market in the final days of 2019. It will soon be renamed as TwinSpires.

Indiana was the third state that the sportsbook moved into, following New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Caesars Sportsbook

Caesars sportsbook is the sports betting branch of casino titan Caesars Entertainment, so even though the sportsbook is new to Indiana, it has a massive company backing it.

Caesars sportsbook tends to focus on betting options that revolve around current events, rather than futures betting. With its easy-to-use website and app, it’s simple to find the available betting options for any event you’re interested in.

theScore Bet

theScore Bet is a Canadian-based sportsbook. The company combines the experiences of theScore media app and theScore Bet sportsbook app to give users a personalized and unique betting experience.

The sportsbook orginally started taking bets in Colorado and New Jersey before it launched in Indiana.

William Hill

William Hill may be the new kid on the block in Indiana, but the company is a big name in the sports betting world.

The British sportsbook is one of the bigger operators out there and previously launched in a handful of other states around the country before making its way to Indiana.

Indiana sports betting apps: How to download an app

Recently, Apple announced potential restrictions on gambling apps.

Until that point, downloading a sports betting app on your iPhone or iPad in other states was easy. Sportsbook apps were available in Apple’s appstore. You could either go direct and search for a brand or follow a link from the casino’s website.

Android users have not had things so easy.

The GooglePlay store does not support gambling apps at all. Instead, you must download a sports betting app directly from the brand’s website. You will come across a warning message that flags you are downloading from an unknownsource.

Once you download the app, you’ll have full access to your account, cashier, betting history and, of course, the ability to place bets.

Do you need an app? In most cases, yes

All online sportsbooks in Indiana have responsive web designs. Most sites will automatically adjust to the size of your mobile device’s screen. The site will detect and adapt to your input type, whether it’s a touchscreen or a mouse.

As you make the website smaller, the navigation will change from a system of menus and links to the “burgers” (triple horizontal lines) to show menus on mobile phones.

With websites working just as well as apps on mobile phones these days, you might question whether you need an app at all.

For many sites, the app is a necessity of the regulated marketplace. In order for your phone to meet the requirements set forth by state gaming regulators, like the Indiana Gaming Commission (IGC), an app is necessary. Sites like DraftKings and FanDuel have to be accessed via app.

For a site like BetRivers, that does not have an Apple app, there is a browser alternative. In order to access browser betting, customers will need to download a third-party app called GeoGuard. This geolocation app helps mobile users meet the regulatory geolocation requirements to allow for browser betting

Navigating around sports betting apps

Each sports betting app in Indiana is from a different brand that organizes its pages uniquely. That said, here are some key features you can expect from most online books, accessible from the main navigation menu.

  • Markets: The main screen shows you the current matches, lets you sort by sport or search for individual bets. Sportsbooks usually sort this information by the current games or the next to start in the major leagues.
  • Account info: Here you can see your personal information, including progress toward any bonus, loyalty milestones, and current bonus offers.
  • Cashier: Apps have full cashier functionality, which means you can deposit and withdraw without having to access the full website.
  • Livebetting: This is a new area for most Indiana sports bettors. You can now bet on games while they are underway. Lines will change in real-time, depending on the action on the field.
  • Promotions: It is always worth checking the current promos before you place a bet. You never know when the match you are betting on might be the subject of a special offer.
  • Results: You’ll be able to see statistics on past team performance on many apps. This info will give you an edge when selecting your bets.

Depending on the brand, you may also find cash-out betting or access to the pari-mutuel betting pools at horse and greyhound racing tracks.

Sports available on Indiana betting apps

In states with regulated sports betting, many betting app users have been surprised by the number of betting markets available. Although Indiana isn’t allowing betting on esports, most other markets are available.

Major leagues are, of course, the primary attraction.

You can bet on the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL, depending on the season. These options include futuresbetting and season-long props.

Check out a few of our sports/team betting guides at the links below:

College leagues and special events, like MarchMadness, are also popular betting fixtures. Other major sports include golf, tennis and motor racing (NASCAR, F1, and IndyCar). You can also bet on MMA and boxing.

Soccer will be a significant draw at legal IN betting sites. This does include MLS, though the focus is on the major European leagues, including the EPL, La Liga, Bundesliga and Champions League. Sportsbooks will also feature international matches (WorldCup and others), plus leagues and cups from all around the world.

Drilling down into niche sports, you can find cricket, Aussie rules football, rugby, cycling, and athletics markets.

Horse racing is handled separately since you can already bet on these via apps from BetAmerica and TVG. They will not be available via the new wave of Indiana sportsbooks coming in under bill H 1015.

What kind of bet can I place on IN betting apps?

Apps have full betting functionality, which allows you to place singles, parlays, and several exotic bets via your mobile device.

One main advantage of mobile betting apps is the live betting option.

You can be watching a match, see the action change, like a star player retiring from the match, and instantly place new bets. Lines update in real-time, based on the action.

For example, if there’s an early goal, you can then place extra bets. For bettors who understand the implications of certain events, this can be a profitable format. It can also allow you to double down on winning positions or hedge against losses.

Cash-out betting is a system that lets you redeem bets early. This option will not be available at every Indiana sportsbook. Where it is possible, you will be given a price for early redemption and get to choose whether to accept it or to let the bet close out.

Regular bets available via apps include moneyline, spread and totals bets. You will find period and player betting, too, with other singles bets depending on the sport. Parlays are popular, and teasers or round robins are also available.

When it comes to apps on horse racing sites, there are still more bets to be placed. Those include win, place and show, plus the bigger prize bets of predicting the places of two to four entrants in a race.

Funding your sports betting app: How the cashier works

Indiana, the other regulated sports betting states give us a good idea of what depositoptions will be available via app cashiers.

The good news is that I expect a lot of mainstream deposit and withdrawalmethods to be available right from the start.

Here is a list of sportsbook deposit options from other regulated states:

  • Bank cards: Your regular bank cards (either debit or credit) are many people’s first choice. Depositing on a sports betting app works just like buying anything online.
  • Prepaidcards: Some sportsbooks have their own branded debit cards that you can fund from your bank. The type of prepaid cards you buy from convenience stores are also a possibility.
  • Banktransfers: E-checks, also called ACH transfers, are popular if you get pre-verified (these become instant). An alternative bank transfer system uses bill pay. You can deposit into your sports betting app in the same way you pay a utility bill.
  • PayPal: Some online sportsbooks in regulated states use this popular electronic wallet service.
  • NetellerorSkrill: These brands are not as well known as PayPal, though work in broadly the same way. They provide a secure wallet between your bank and the betting sites.
  • Cash: There are several ways of using cash. You can take this to the cashier at the casino license holder for your book. You could also use PayNearMe at your local 7-Eleven.
  • Wire, check or money order: These old-school ways of making deposits are slow, though they are a safe and reliable way to get your money on board.

Indiana mobile sports betting looks bright

We expect every Indiana online sportsbook to eventually offer a choice of using an app or a responsive website.

Despite some variation, all the mobile sportsbook options should provide similar convenience factors. You’ll be able to set up and fund your account, track bonus or loyalty progress, and place bets directly from your mobile device. This works well for live betting; after all, you won’t be carrying your desktop computer to a local bar to watch the big game.

With a lot of betting options and a long list of easy funding methods, the future is looking bright for sports bettors in Indiana.

Only 2 Indian Casinos Offer Sports Betting in 2018

There was great enthusiasm in the Indian gaming industry when the U.S. Supreme Court rejected state banning of sports betting. However, since that judicial decision in May 2018, there have only been a few states to enact sports betting legislation and only two Indian casinos to open sports books.

Many tribes welcome the new business opportunity but have concerns about regulatory challenges, the low profit margins and state appovals. Also, many Indian casinos are not in an advantageous location to make it a viable business.

The first tribe to offer sports betting was the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians at their Pearl River Resort in Choctaw, Mississippi. The second was the Santa Ana Pueblo at their Santa Ana Star Casino Hotel near Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians were the first to open a sports book within an Indian casino not in Nevada. The Pearl River Resort opened sports betting Aug 30, 2018 at its Siver Star Hotel & Casino and Golden Moon Hotel & Casino.

The Santa Ana Pueblo opened its sports book at the Santa Ana Star Casino on Oct 16, 2018, New Mexico does not have sports betting lregulations, but terms in the gaming compact between the state and the tribe allows the tribe to operate every types of Indian gaming regulated by the U.S. Interior Department.

Many more tribes are preparing to introduce sports betting at their casinos during 2019.

Sports betting is open in New Jersey

June 14, 2018

On Thursday the first betting facility to offer sports betting took the first bet. It took place at Monmouth Park Racetrack. A $20 wager was placed on Germany to win the World Cup by Gov. Murphy. He also placed another $20 bet for a 2019 championship for the New Jersey Devils.

The legalization of sports betting has been an ongoing lawsuit for nearly 8 years. Last month the United States Supreme Court ruled to overturn the law. This gave permission to states to decide if the game should be operated at the casinos in their states. In addition to New Jersey, Delaware is also about to begin offering the game. More states are expected soon to also start sports betting operations. This includes New York and Pennsylvania

New Jersey has been supportive of the legalization of sports betting. The state's casino industry has suffered for the last few years. The addition of sports betting is seen as a way to add additional revenue source to the industry. The new game has been estimated to earn the state millions in annual taxes.

13,000 additional jobs will be created from the operation of sports betting.

The first casino to offer sports betting was the Borgata in Atlantic City. 30 minutes after Monmouth Park Racetrack took their first bets, the Borgata began taken bets.

Gambling fans celebrated the ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court. Previously Nevada was the only state that offered Sports Betting.

On June 28 the Ocean Resort Casino opened. It is located in the previous Revel Casino location. A sportsbook is being developed at the center of the casino. A date to begin offering Sports Betting has not been announced. By NFL season the Golden Nugget is also expected to begin offering the game. Next month Meadowlands Racetrack will begin Sports Betting operations.

New Jersey Legalizes Sports Betting Opens June

June 11, 2018

On Monday sports betting was legalized in the state of New Jersey. Gov. Philip D. Murphy signed the bill in private. Afterwards an email was sent to news outlets announcing the approval. Gaming will be allowed to start this Thursday.

Sports betting will be allowed to be operated at both casinos and racetracks.

The licensing at racetracks will be regulated by the New Jersey Racing Commission. On Wednesday the commission is scheduled to meet. Sports betting operators are expected to begin submitting their requests. It is possible that the licenses will be approved during this time.

The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement regulates the casinos in the state. Reviewing applications, enforcing regulation, and approving licenses for the sports betting is also expected to quickly begin.

Currently, the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa is expected to be the first casino ready to begin offering sports betting. The horse racing track owned by the casino has previously turned some of the betting windows into a sports betting site. This is a temporary arrangement. A permanent will be added at a later time. The casino hotel is owned by MGM Resorts International.

Plans to develop space to operate sports betting is being planned at the other six casinos in Atlantic City.

After the bill was singed, online sports betting can start 30 days later.

It has taken many years for the approval of sports betting to pass. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled last month that the previous law would be overturned and lifted the ban on nationwide sports betting. On Thursday the bill was approved by the New Jersey law makers. However, the bill needed final approval from the governor before it could become law.

NIGC Statement on the Supreme Court ruling on Sports Betting

NATIONAL INDIAN GAMING COMMISSION
May 15, 2018

PRESS RELEASE
For Immediate Release
Media Contact: Mark Gaston
(202) 632-7003

NIGC Statement on the Supreme Court ruling on - Murphy v. National Collegiate Athletic Association

As questions arise from the Supreme Court ruling on - Murphy v. National Collegiate Athletic Association the NIGC is issuing the following statement.

Gaming by tribal nations as a means of generating governmental revenue initially began as an exercise of the inherent authority tribal nations have over their lands and predated the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988. While IGRA set forth a statutory framework for the regulation of Indian gaming, it explicitly recognized that a principal goal of federal policy is to promote tribal economic development, tribal self-sufficiency, and strong tribal government.

In the nearly 30 years since IGRA was passed, the Indian gaming industry has grown, matured, and evolved in ways that almost no one could have predicted at the time. And while that growth is due primarily to the ingenuity and hard work of the tribal communities that built the industry, it has occurred in the context of a piece of legislation that was enacted with core tribal self-determination goals in mind. The NIGC takes seriously its role to regulate the Indian gaming industry to ensure these goals are achieved.

The NIGC understands the unique and often complex nature of tribal gaming and the difficult questions it sometimes poses related to issues such as jurisdiction and permissible gaming. Moreover, we have worked with gaming tribes on a daily basis and have developed a deep knowledge of the industry. Should new opportunities be made available through legislative changes, we are prepared to continue to fulfill our statutory responsibilities to regulate gaming on Indian lands.

As Federal regulators, we have learned first-hand that there is tangible benefit to having tribes, as primary regulators, driving decisions as to how gaming will operate on their own lands. As Federal and State Governments consider how to address sports betting in light of yesterday's decision, we anticipate that Tribes will be given a seat at the table to voice their positions, bring their perspectives and collective expertise, and maintain regulatory and operational control over all the gaming that occurs on their lands.

National Indian Gaming Association Supports Sports Betting

April 25, 2018

A resolution that would support sports betting was approved last week by the National Indian Gaming Association. However, that approval comes with conditions that would protect Native American owned casinos and their futures.

Currently Nevada is the only state where sports betting is legal. The nationwide law is being challenged. It is possible that other states will begin allowing sports betting.

As of January, of this year, it was unclear if the change in the law would be supported by the National Indian Gaming Association.

When a new tribal owned casino is proposed, the tribe and the state enter into an agreement called a gaming compact. The compact outlines how the casino operation and how tax revue money made from the gaming will be spent. This is required under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.

Sports betting is a new category of gaming that would be a new venture for many states. If the current law is changed, this would bring a new challenge to tribal gaming. Legal battles would occur to determine who has the gaming rights to the game. That could depend on the current laws within those states.

The National Indian Gaming Association sports betting framework outlined the terms that would be accepted. There are nine elements.

Gaming compacts must be protected under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. Also, the Act should not be amended. Revenue made from sports betting would not be taxed if operated at a tribal owned casino. Tribal governments have to be acknowledged as such and given the authority to be able to regulate the games. Sports betting websites owned by Native American governments may be accessible by guests as long as sports betting is legal where they are located. The economic impact of sports betting must be beneficial for the tribal governments. Responsible gaming must be protected for the guests as well as maintain the integrity of the game. Online gaming and mobile gaming would follow the same principles. Native American tribes would be allowed to have access to multiple markets under any regulation set by the federal government.

There are close to 250 tribal owned casinos in the United States.

Sports Betting at Indian Casinos is Coming?

February 21 2018

Betting

The future of sports betting in the United States is in question. It is being heard by the Supreme Court and a ruling is coming on the Christie v. National Collegiate Athletic Association. The outcome of the decision could determine the future of tribal owned gaming.

In 1992 the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act went into effect. The law prevents sports betting from being approved or sponsored by either tribes or states. Some states were allowed to grandfather in their laws that allowed sports wagering. However this federal law is being challenged by the state of New Jersey. This issue is over if the Act is constitutional.

On December 04, 2017 arguments began being heard.

If the court sides with New Jersey, then tribes and states would have the right to approve sports betting. However, it would not federally authorize sports betting country wide.

The Indian Gaming Regulatory Act oversees the regulations of tribal gaming including the future of sports betting operated by tribes. Under the IGRA tribes can operate commercial casinos. However only certain types of gaming can be conducted at these casinos based on the type of gaming that is approved by the state were they are located.

It is uncertain what type of gaming category that the sports betting would fall under and if that would be approved by the state. If it is not approved by the state, then the tribes cannot operate that type of gaming.

However, the tribes believe that they alone should have the authorization to approve which types of games they operate. Not the state they are located in.

Indian Gaming and Sports Betting

February 15, 2018

Last week ICE Totally Gaming was held in London. The future of sports betting and tribal gaming was a large topic at the convention. There was a panel held for the topic called 'understanding the opportunities and complexities of rolling out sports wagering for tribal casinos'. During this panel it was mentioned that many of the existing business partnerships they have prefer to work with Native American tribes because they can move faster on projects and trying new platforms than state approved casinos.

The state of New Jersey has expressed interest in offering sports betting.

American Indian Tribes have the majority role in the sports betting and gaming industry. Many tribes have compacts that allow for gaming exclusivity. However, states are looking at ways to increase tax revenue and gaming is of interest.

The United States has 248 tribes that have a gaming operation. They are located in 29 states. In order for these tribes to operate gaming, there has to be an agreement made between the tribe and the state. The agreement describes issues like what types of games will be offered, tax payments, regulations, and more. This is done under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.

There are different terms and conditions formed with the compacts. This is because each compact in an individual negotiation.

Some of those compacts have exclusivity clauses. Meaning, only that tribe can offer that type of game. If a state becomes interested in offering sports betting, the matter becomes very complicated.

The verdict over allowing sports betting around the country is expected by the end of the year from the Supreme Court.

Will Indian Casino Tribes Fight Expansion of Sports Betting

Jan 09, 2018

It is possible that as early as June of this year that sport betting could be allowed in each state. The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to make a decision that would allow for individual states to choose if they want to allow sports betting.

A major issue revolving around sports betting has to do with Indian Tribal gaming. It is a $100 billion industry. Currently Native American tribes have control of sports betting in California, Connecticut, and Florida. There are also a few areas in in the mid-west, including Oklahoma, where the controlling power is the National Indian Gaming Association (NIGA).

The NIGA wants to be able to have a say in the future of sports betting.

Recently there was a report that was released by the American Gaming Association (AGA) about how tribal gaming effects each state's economy. The report was titled 'The Economic Impact of Tribal Gaming: A First-Ever State-by-State Analysis'.

The report revealed that tribal gaming contributes employee salaries of $33 billion. It has also created and supports 635,000 jobs. The federal, state, and local governments have received $16 billion in taxes from gaming at tribal casinos. In total there are 485 tribal owned casinos. There are 565 tribes involved with the operation of 244 gaming venues. There are 28 states with tribal owned casinos.

States are not interested in risking the loss of tax revenue earned from Native American casinos.

The Seminole Tribe of Florida own and operate the Hard Rock Casino brand. They have entered into law suits where other forms of gaming can affect their casinos' business.

Previously there was a proposed bill in Florida that would have allowed for daily fantasy sports. A formal letter of complaint was issued by the tribe in order to stop the bill from passing. Under their compact with the state, they have exclusive rights to gaming. This includes the decision of what types of gaming to offer.

The courts sided with the Seminoles and the gaming compact was defended.

Casino

In other states where tribes have exclusive rights to what games are offered, allowing sports betting and other forms of gambling can be complicated. This includes forms of online gaming.

California is currently considering sports betting and online poker. It is being debated over who will be allowed to operate it.

The state is undergoing very large casino expansion projects.

The Pechanga Resort & Casino is spending $285 million in expansion and renovations. $170 million is being spent by the Pala Casino Resort and Spa for their projects. A new hotel tower with 500 guest rooms is planned for the San Manuel Casino.

Many Native American tribes that have casino operations are preparing for potential lawsuits if their state begins to offer sports betting. The tribes will sue in order to protect their businesses.
